-Film: An Unfinished Affair
-Year: 1996
-Character: Rick Connor
-Summary: Well, first off, this was a Lifetime movie, so that should tell you a lot right there. But in a nutshell, Daddy Connor had an affair with a hawt (evil) student WHILE HIS WIFE WAS SICK WITH CANCER, BONUS ASSHOLE POINTS FOR YOU! The Trophy Wife recovers and Daddy Connor tries to break things off with his piece-on-the-side, Sheila (played by Jennie Garth). Too bad Sheila is batshit crazy, and part of her batshit crazy plan to get back at Daddy Connor is to seduce his son Rick (PFach) and then deeeeeeeestroy him! BWAH-HA-HA-HA!!!! Oh the Lifetime Crazy Evilness…it buuuuuurns!
This movie just so happens to have a bit of interesting trivia attached: Jennie Garth and PFach met filming this, and not too long afterward had a baby (and later a wedding) together.** Which convinces us of one thing: Jennie Garth must be one hell of an actress…Sheila is so eeeeeeeeevil in the movie, shamelessly manipulating and setting Rick up, that it’s amazing our boy PFach didn’t hide in his trailer in between takes! She (SPOILERS) tries to kill his mama, sets him up for murder, tries to kill his dad, and then tries to kill him! Oy!
-Fachs: BabyFach! /snuggles
-Naked Time! As if! This is Lifetime for Women! Plus, the sexytimes get interrupted by (you guessed it) Sheila being eeeeeeevil!
-Availability: Decent…it was on Netflix’s DVD plan, and Kate caught it ON Lifetime.
-Best WTF?!? Moment: Pretty much anything with The Trophy Wife in it…but specifically the scene with her dumb ass and her marabou around-the-house pumps. She SHOULD have gone off the cliff on the dirtbike!
-Drinking Game: This is one of those movies where you should just drink throughout, with bonus chugs for when you cry “NOOOOOOOOOOOO” at the screen when that evil bitch Sheila manipulates Rick like an innocent puppy.
-Kate’s Thoughts: Well, granted this is a Lifetime movie from 1996, so I suppose I should cut it some slack. But honestly…IT’S A LIFETIME MOVIE FROM 1996! So watching it, my reactions ranged from snorting at the ridiculousness, to raging at Evil-Sheila, to giving reluctant props to the nice little twist at the end.
Poor PFach is yet again an adorable clueless character, motivated by his desire to help/protect the ones he loves, and it will actually kinda break your heart when he finds out that the woman he loves has been banging his dad. Which sounds strangely familiar…hmm…well, that’s a review for another blog! BUT ANYWAY…the scene where Rick finds out and his subsequent breakdown actually brought a tear to my cynical eye. Because PFach really tears this scene UP, and his heartbreak is genuinely painful to witness.
As long as you can get past the 1996 Lifetime lulz, I say give this one a try! Don’t stay up until 2am to catch it on Lifetime or anything (that’s what DVR is for!) but if you get a chance watch it if only to find out that Kelly Taylor really was eeeeeeevil!!!!
-Brits’ Thoughts:
So, our beloved PFach is certainly no stranger to Lifetime movies, or at least he wasn’t back in the day. This is something I’m totally cool with since every now and then, when it’s raining and I don’t feel like getting off my ass, I’ll bury myself under some comfy blankies and watch the dramaz unfold on Lifetime from dusk til dawn. But in those circumstances, I’m vegged out, chatting with my twin, making popcorn, playing Words With Friends, so my attention isn’t totally on the Dun Dun Duuuuuun…. quality of their movies.
In this case, however, for the integrity of our precious blog (and the love of our adorbs BabyFach *snuggle*), I made sure to engulf myself entirely in An Unfinished Affair.
My conclusion? Sheila is eeeeeeeeeeeeeevil!!!!
And guys are blind as hell when it comes to hot blondes…
Rick’s dad is pervy, his mom gets on my nerves, and the ‘evil Sheila being evil’ plot is over-dramatic and used. But that’s the 90′s for you, kids! Even though this movie has some LOL moments, believe me when I say that it actually has some redeeming qualities! For serious! PFach’s emotional breakdown will make your heart ache (he’s so damn good at that, isn’t he?), and even though the entire movie was pretty much your run-of-the-mill Lifetime special, the ending actually made me gasp out loud at a few of the twists and turns!
Another interesting fact for those of you who used to watch Passions. Katherine Bennet-Crane is in this movie as the annoying-as-fuck Trophy Wife!
**MARCH 2012 UPDATE: Yes, we are aware that Peter and Jennie have filed for divorce since we originally posted this recap. We aren’t a gossip blog, though, and we’re not going to rewrite what we originally did, trying to be funny over something that is a private family matter. Executive decision: we left the recap as-is. -K&B
